Stacy Rodriguez!

Tell us about yourself.
Hello everyone, my name is Stacy Rodriguez and I’m super excited to be part of this fabulous design team. I have been scrapbooking for about 9 years now, and have been hooked from day one. I have been with hubby for over 15 years now and love him more everyday. Together we have a daughter who keeps us very busy and always gives my camera a workout :)

What’s your style? What do you like to create and what’s your favorite item to use?
I don’t really have a certain style I stick to when creating things. It’s more whatever i’m feeling at the moment, but I love to try out new techniques. I am a alpha junkie!!! Love those letters…any size, shape, color, style…I gotta have them!!

What’s your favorite snack while creating?
Whenever I’m in my studio you will always find a cup of coffee by my side!

Favorite guilty pasttime?
I do have one guilty past time and that is watching my soap apera. I only watch one and on the days that I don’t get to see it I tend to get a little moody!

I’m looking forward to sharing some of my creations with you and if there is ever anything you would like to know about what I have created please feel free to send me an email.

You can see Stacy’s projects on her blog, Scrappin Queen. We’ll be back after the holiday weekend with more new Design Team Members. In the meantime, have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Meet Margie Higuchi

Tell us about yourself.
I have been an acid-free paper crafter for over 14 years. Back in the late-70s, I had collected pictures and keepsakes in an album which started it all! A scrapbooker at the beginning, my hobby spilled over to altered art and card making. I love how my supplies can expand to so many different crafts. Although I won’t say if I had saved money in doing so (wink).

My passion for paper crafting is shared through my teaching/demoing at local scrapbook stores, my writing through online and print magazines, and my artwork through design team responsibilities. In addition, I have taught scrapbooking in Japanese to the Japanese community where I lived in NJ/NY and in IL. It is so easy to “market” a hobby that you love (or do I dare say an addiction? LOL!) – it’s not a job, it’s play!

Married to Hosho for 19 years and together we have two teenage boys. We live in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (Schaumburg), IL for 4 years. I love to travel, read my Kindle and eat!

What’s your style? What do you like to create and what’s your favorite item to use?
My style is simple – depends on the mood and the inspiration I see in a project. I like to create cards for today..ask me tomorrow and it might be layouts or altered art or…it’s endless. Favorite items to use would be flowers! As mom of boys, I can appreciate any time I can add that element to a project! LOL! I love to make them with my Spellbinders die templates – you can use whatever color or pattern paper to match your project. Or go further and create them with fabric or felt or old text…love the versatility of creating your own flowers! Although I do use those wonderful pre-made ones too!

What’s your favorite snack while creating?
I don’t really snack while creating…I’m not that coordinated! Besides I already create a mess without food! LOL!!

If you could visit one place, where would you go?
One place? Could it be a continent? LOL! I would pick Europe…never been and is on my “bucket” list. There are so many different languages/cultures in one region and its history is amazing. How much inspiration can one take from there?! I have been fortunate to visit a majority of Asia through business and pleasure. But Europe is definitely a place I’d like to go! Are you reading this, Hosho?! Heehee!

Favorite guilty pasttime?
Hmm…watching my favorite TV programs on the On-Demand channels. I can’t watch them in the evenings – that’s when I spend time with family. So I catch up while I’m eating lunch or I’m preparing dinner. My favorites are The Good Wife, The Voice (because my GF’s daughter on it – Go Sara!), Project Runway and Blue Bloods (still a Tom Selleck fan! LOL!).

Be sure and check out Margie’s blog, Scraps of (My) Life.

Introducing Susie Bentz

Tell us about yourself.
I live in Northern Virginia with my husband of 20 years and our 3 kids (ages 13 to 18), a dog, a guinea pig, and a turtle. My favorite TV shows are Glee, American Idol and The Mentalist. I recently took an online Digital Photography class so I could take my Olympus E-500 off of automatic – learned lots but still trying to master shooting on manual. I love to read and just started the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I started scrapbooking about 5 years ago when a friend invited me to a Creative Memories crop and I haven’t looked back. I am usually a pretty slow scrapper. I like to try new techniques. I am a paper addict and a tool junkie.

What’s your style? What do you like to create and what’s your favorite item to use?
I suppose I would call my style traditional…with texture! I love adding dimension and detail to a piece…but my layers tend to be very tailored. I love patterned paper. One of my strengths is probably my ability to mix patterns, but it is also one of my weaknesses. I admire designers who are able to use “open space” on their pages, but blank cardstock is just not something you are going to find very often in my projects. I love making layouts and dimensional displays like shadow boxes or exploding boxes.

What’s your favorite snack while creating?
I am fueled by Diet Coke. My go-to snack is usually M&M’s.

If you could visit one place, where would you go?
If I won the lottery I would spend the money on travel and scuba diving adventures all over the world. My husband and I recently watched a program on the National Geographic Channel that bumped The Galapagos Islands to the very top of my bucket list! (Note to self: go buy a lottery ticket today…)

Favorite guilty pasttime?
OMG…my oldest son would be so embarrassed that I am “outing myself”…I sometimes…play…Farmville.
(Although, truthfully, this was practically a tie with my other guilty pastime of re-reading the really juicy parts in the Twilight series!)

You can visit Susie’s blog, My Time to Play, to see Susie’s work.

Meet Einat Kessler

Tell us about yourself.
I started scrapbooking in 2000 after inspired by my grandfather who has created scrapbooks since I was a little girl. I am a designer and workshop teacher. I am considered a pioneer in Israel’s scrapbooking industry, which has grown significantly in recent years. I create and design LO’s, mini albums, cards, mixed media and home décor. I am a CHA designer member (the first and only from Israel so far), I have been published in several magazines and featured in a series of workshops on TV. I’m happily married with two amazing boys.

What’s your style? What do you like to create and what’s your favorite item to use?
My style is eclectic and versatile. I like to use all kinds of materials traditional like papers, flowers, chipboard and some not so traditional like fabric, yarn, wood etc. I like to explore different combinations of materials, colors and textures. I always use my leftovers. I like to find new innovative ways of using them in my creations. I create LO’s, mini albums, cards. Mixed media and home décor.

What’s your favorite snack while creating?
I can’t eat while creating, so I don’t have a favorite snack. However I always need music when I’m working.

If you could visit one place, where would you go?
I have already been to Africa, Europe, US and Canada, so if I have to choose somewhere I have never been to, I think I would like to visit China.

Favorite guilty pasttime?
That would have to be…eating good food!

Introducing Robyn Coburn

Starting today we’ll be introducing you to each member of our design team, staring with Robyn.

Tell us about yourself.
For most of my life I’ve been a designer – Theater sets, costumes and lighting, and Production Design for independent film. Since having my daughter I’ve repurposed my life as a home schooling mother, writer and artisan. My daughter inspired me to become interested in art dolls which led me into a whole new world of creative activity. I write screenplays (one sold), crafty articles for Natural Life Magazine, and I’m working on my first book about upcycling your old clothes into new garments, gifts, and home wares. Meanwhile I’ve fallen in love with scrapbooking and paper crafts. I teach Beginner’s Scrapbooking through Spotted Canary School at two of my local Michaels. When not working I enjoy reading, sci-fi, television cop shows, and classic movies. I love cooking shows, but don’t like cooking. I do like baking, but I like baking polymer clay more!

What’s your style? What do you like to create and what’s your favorite item to use?
Aside from OOAK Art Dolls and doll journals, I enjoy creating scrapbook pages and special gift packaging made from recycled and unusual materials. My articles require me to design and workshop new mixed media projects – aren’t I lucky? I like making gift tags too. I always make my own greeting cards, especially for the holidays. I like ATC’s when I have a swap. I’d like to get into more mini-albums, but there are only so many hours in the day. Other than paper crafts, I crochet with plarn and other yarns. I want to make more of my own clothes, like I used to, and that is one of my goals for this year – as my clothes wear out to replace them with home sewn things.

I delight in creating pages with many layers and a collage feel. Making custom embellishments, mixing sources and altering papers are my favorite part of the process. Of course my Cricut changed my life, but I still like to adapt and alter the things I can cut. In paper crafting I’m drawn to shabby styles, distressing and prim, with the photos as the main point. My dolls are always very encrusted, stylized rather than realistic, and colorful. One word for it all: eclectic.

What’s your favorite snack while creating?
I tend not to eat, to keep my fingers clean and glue out of my food, but I love coffee!

If you could visit one place, where would you go?
Europe – I haven’t been since I was a child. I want to visit my distant relatives in Cologne, Germany and all the ancient Celtic places that were the homes of my ancestors. Plus my husband’s family came from Wales and Switzerland originally.

Favorite guilty pasttime?
Angry Birds, World of Goo and too much web surfing….I mean research!….when I should be writing.
